Nineteen of the Russian's twenty-one victories have been earned on hard surfaces

A comeback Medvedev won his maiden championship for 882 days with victory over Corentin Moutet in the Almaty Open final.

The athlete, a ex- number one, has experienced a challenging season, managing just a single victory at the big events and experiencing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the tennis tour - and difficulties with his serve in particular - caused him falling of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time mentor Gilles Cervara.

Now working with Thomas Johansson and his other coach, the tennis star has gradually improved in the past month - culminating in a closely contested competitive victory over Frenchman Moutet.

It is the player's first trophy since the Italian tournament and maiden on a hard court from spring of 2023.

The win also indicates the Russian has secured 21 victories at 21 various tournaments.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters together, so to win a title is particularly special," stated tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This victory is in honour of my younger daughter my daughter, because the initial championship I achieved when my first daughter Alisa was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his last six title deciders, including in that event earlier this year.

The player's counter-punching play style and recurring reactions on the tennis court had led observers to question if his capacity to perform at the elite level was over.

However the athlete has made changes in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and compete assertively, supported by an enhanced service.

Medvedev came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the tricky Frenchman, winning 4 of the concluding five exchanges to take the lead.

Both players swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, striving for his initial ATP Tour championship, took control to create a decider.

Moutet saved four early chances in a competitive third set before Medvedev broke to 15 to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev clinched victory with a point at the net, with Moutet incapable to handle a volley after two hours and 38 minutes.
